Reading Test Format
Academic Reading
- Three long texts, which range from descriptive and factual to discursive and analytical
- Texts are authentic and taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers
- Texts are appropriate for undergraduate or postgraduate entry level
General Training Reading
- Section 1: Contains two or three short factual texts
- Section 2: Contains two short factual texts focusing on work-related issues
- Section 3: Contains one longer, more complex text on a topic of general interest

- Skim read the text first to get a general understanding before answering questions
- Pay attention to keywords in both the questions and the text
- Don't spend too much time on one question - if you're stuck, move on and come back later
- Be aware of time - aim to spend about 20 minutes on each section
- Read the instructions carefully - they may contain important information about word limits
